John Edward Ratliff, Sr., 68, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016 in San Angelo, TX. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, 807 S. Columbia, Stamford, TX with Dr. Jacob West officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 13, 2016 from 6 until 7 p.m.
John was born September 2, 1947 in Lamesa, TX to John Marvin and Gertrude Monica Ratliff. John grew up in west Texas, living in Plainview, Lubbock and the Brownfield area as his family relocated for his dad’s employment at cotton gins and in the oil field. Following high school, John joined the United States Army in 1965. He was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX and deployed to Korea. John moved to Stamford following his tour in the Army and married Yvonne Snow in 1967. The couple resided in Rule, TX until 1972 when they moved to Lubbock before coming back to Stamford in 1973. In 1988 John moved to San Angelo, TX and remained there until his death. He was employed in the oil field.
Survivors include, Yvonne Ratliff; 2 sons, Troy Ratliff and wife Wendy of Wink, TX, John Ratliff, Jr. of San Angelo, TX, 2 daughters, Melessa Brooks and husband Kevin of Seymour, TX, and Dianna Bell of Midland, TX; 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Bill Ratliff and Bob Ratliff, 1 great grandson, Mayson Richardson.
