Irene Gregory Moon

Irene Gregory Moon, 88, passed from the hospital in Temple, Texas to her eternal home on Friday, April 1, 2016. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2016 at the New Hope Cemetery in Jones County with Rev. Joe Walton officiating and under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford, Texas.
Irene was born June 9, 1927 in Stamford, Texas to George W. and Nellie R. Gregory. She was reared in Stamford and graduated from Stamford High School in 1944. She married John Harold Moon on January 6, 1945 in Stamford. Irene was employed by Perry Brother’s Variety Store, Bunkley Drug Store and cleaned houses for several years. She found joy in taking caring of people. Irene was a lifetime resident of Stamford, living here for 80 years prior to moving to Troy, Texas in 2007 to be near her daughter, Georgie. She was a member of the Connection Point Assembly of God Church in Troy, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, 1 son, John Harold Moon Jr., 1 daughter, Christa Nell Figg, 1 grandson, Shawn Mitchell, 3 sisters, including her twin sister, Corene Patterson, Mary Mayfield, and Evelyn Bogden, and 2 brothers, Jack Gregory and Alvin Gregory.
She is survived by 1 daughter, Georgie Mitchell and husband Don of Troy, Texas, 1 son in law, Tom Figg of Belen, New Mexico, 6 grandchildren, Eddie Figg and wife Mercy, Tanya Martinez and husband Rubaldo, Drew Mitchell, Wesley Moon and wife Yante, Brian Moon and wife Sierra, and Rex Moon, 7 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews who she loved dearly along with her church family at Connection Point and First Baptist Church in Stamford.
