L. D. Jones, 84, of Stamford, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2009 in Stamford. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Walton officiating. Military graveside rites will follow in the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford.

L. D. was born April 17, 1925 in Turkey, Texas to John William and Lula Mae Weaver Jones. L.D. was a member of the Baptist Church and an Army veteran of W.W. II, serving at Normandy Beach and the Battle of the Bulge. He married Jonnie Mae Ely in Goree, Texas in July of 1947. L. D. worked for the Coca Cola Bottling Co. for 34 years as a route manager before his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 55 years, 2 brothers, Austin Jones and Earl Jones, and 1 sister, Mary Wilson.

He is survived by 1 son, Larry Jones and wife Vickie, of Hodges, 1 brother, Wencel “Sonny” Jones and wife Corenne of Wichita Falls, 2 sisters, Darlene Sims of Winters, and Ina Mae Brown and husband John of Iowa Park, 2 grand sons, Logan Jones of Burleson, Texas and Travis Jones of Denton, Texas.
