H. L. "Grover" Prewit

June 4, 1924 — February 20, 2016

Horace Lee “Grover” Prewit, 91, of Abilene and formerly of Stamford, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 20, 2016 in Abilene, TX.
Grover Prewit was born in Stamford, TX on June 4, 1924. He was one of six children born to David Edison Prewit, and Ursula Elizabeth Sims Prewit. Grover lived in Stamford most of his life. He was a graduate of Stamford High School. He married Doris Marie Clemmer on September 26, 1953, and they shared 62 years of love and dedication to each other. Grover had a 50 year career selling cars, and had the privilege of working at Prewit Motor Company,
Arrow Ford, and Lawrence Hall in Anson.
Grover was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 41, from 1957-59, seven scouts advanced to Eagle Scout under his leadership. He was very active in the First Baptist Church and served on numerous committees. He was also involved in the Stamford Rotary Club, Lions Club, Prewit Motor Company Plymouth All Star Club, Stamford Preservation League, and served on the board of the United Way. Grover cared about Stamford, he was always generous of time and had a knack for selling tickets for civic projects. He truly cared about the commerce of Stamford and wanted it to thrive.
He was the top salesman for Chevrolet and Buick and was a member of the Texas Cowboy Reunion Oldtimers Association. Grover was a true “Friday Night Lights, Blue Bleeding” Stamford Bulldogs Football fan!
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Gene, Lendall, Rex, and Jerry and 1 sister, Frances Prewit Grissom. Survivors include his wife, Doris Marie Clemmer Prewit, 1 daughter Michelle Prewit Cranor and husband Daniel, 1 granddaughter, Kacee Cranor, 1 brother in law, Bill Clemmer and wife Betty and several nieces and nephews.
.The family would like to thank Dr. Will Shudde for his loving care and friendship with Grover through the years, Dr. Clay and the staff at Abilene Regional Hospital, an angel named Catherine and the staff of Hendrick Hospice, the staff of Royal Estates, and Dr. Nancy Daggubati. We would also like to thank caregivers Janie Comacho, Mickey New, and Erlinda Gonzales.
Visitation with the family will be Monday, February 22, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 S. Columbia, Stamford, TX. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the First Baptist Church, Stamford, TX. with Dr. Jacob West and Rev. T.C. Melton officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford, TX.
Pallbearers will be Matt Mueller, Gary Decker, Mark Lundgren, Walt Clemmer, Greg Clemmer, and Steve Clemmer. Honorary Pallbearers will be past and present employees of Lawrence Hall, and past and present coaches and players for the Stamford Bulldogs
Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church, 214 N. Swenson, Stamford, TX 79553, the Hendrick Hospice, 1682 Hickory, Abilene, TX 79601, or the West Texas Rehabilitation Center,4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605.
