Margie passed away on Monday, January 11, 2016. She was 81 years old. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Faith Lutheran Church in Sagerton with Revs. Al Martin and Greg Goza officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Glory Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford. The family will receive friends at the Faith Lutheran Church on Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time.
Margie Lynn Martin was born September 26, 1934 in Haskell County, Texas to Horace Leon and Gladys Hines Martin. She attended school at Rule school and graduated from Rule High School in 1954.
Margie married Bill Hertel on June 20, 1954. To this marriage three children were born, Mike, Karla and Vicki. Margie and Bill worked together in their farming operation in the Sagerton area. She enjoyed serving in civic clubs as a member of the Sagerton Hobby Club and the Stamford Garden Club. For many years she was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sagerton. She served as election judge for the Democratic Party for a number of years. Margie and Bill Hertel were married for 48 years prior to his death in 2002. In 2004, Margie married Bill Lackey, he preceded her in death in 2008. Margie was also preceded in death by 1 brother, Monty Martin in 2013.
Survivors include 1 son, Mike Hertel and wife Cheryl of Rule, TX, 2 daughters, Karla Rimes of Sagerton, TX and Vicki Ralph and husband Jack of New Braunfels, TX, 3 step sons, Billy Lackey and wife Linda, Glenn Lackey and wife Debbie, and Ronny Lackey and wife Tammy, 1 brother, George Martin and wife Annelle of Amarillo, TX, 9 grandchildren, Craig Smith and wife Annette, Misty Fritzler, Will Smith, Michael Hertel and wife Angela, Jeremy Hertel, Kirstin Rosenbaum and husband Adam, Andrew Hertel, Jessica Ralph, and Eric Ralph, 12 great grandchildren, Del, Kourtney, Kennedy, Karcin, Karleigh, Sean, Kaydence, Hannah, Kynzleah, Layne, Dakota, and Hunter.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Craig Smith, Will Smith, Michael Hertel, Jeremy Hertel, Andrew Hertel, and Eric Ralph.
