Lawrence Ekdahl received the ultimate blessing Tuesday, August 25, 2015 when he went home to his Lord and Savior. He was 98 years old.
Lawrence V. Ekdahl was born April 18, 1917 in the Ericksdahl community to John and Delma (Shuquist) Ekdahl. He was a graduate of Lueders High School. Following graduation he attended a welding and diesel engine operation school in Los Angeles, CA. Lawrence served his country during WWII in the 37th ordnance. He received the Silver Star for gallantry in Burma in the New Guinea Area. He worked at the Lubbock Police Department from 1952 until retiring in 1972. Following Lawrence’s retirement the Ekdahl Family returned to their roots to live in the Berryhill Community to farm, ranch and attend church at Bethel Lutheran in Ericksdahl.
Lawrence married Miss Ruby Bean on New Year’s Day in 1946 at the Bethel Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three children: Mary, Royce and Wayne.
Preceding Lawrence in death were his parents, his wife of 61 years Ruby Ekdahl and a sister Violet Ivy.
Lawrence’s memories will be cherished by his three children: Mary Guenthner and husband Larry of Warner Rabin’s, GA, Royce Ekdahl and wife LaVerne of Lubbock, TX and Wayne Ekdahl and wife Sylvia of Stamford, TX; 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl with the Rev. Teresa Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends and family at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 S. Columbia) Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 6-7 p.m.
