Eldon Leroy Moritz, 72, of Abilene, passed away on Thursday, 1/29/2009. Memorial services were at 11:00 a.m. Monday, 2/2/2009 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl  with Rev. Teresa Davis officiating and under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford. Eldon was born June 21, 1936 in Stamford to Clarence and Meta Moritz.  He was raised in Stamford and graduated Stamford High School in 1954 and was in all athletic programs.  Eldon attended the The University of Texas and played football for the Longhorns, lettering in 1955 and 1956.  He then went to the Army for 3 years and spent 13 months in Germany.  Eldon returned to Texas after his time in the army and returned to the University and lettered once again in 1961.  Eldon was a humorist, master of ceremonies and motivational speaker for many activities and events including Stamford homecomings, and Texas Exes events. Eldon was also a professional baseball umpire in the Texas leagues and midwest leagues but his love was flying.  At the time of his death, Eldon was a pilot for Abilene Aero and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Abilene.He is survived by 2 brothers, Jerry Moritz of Marble Falls, Texas and George Moritz and wife Vickie of Logan, Utah and a host of friends and other relatives.  He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Bradford Moritz
