Lavada Thomas

Lavada Thomas, 93, of Hamlin and formerly of Stamford, passed away on June 11, 2015 in Hamlin. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Solomon Temple Baptist Church in Stamford with Rev. Donny Massey officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
Lavada was born April 23, 1922 in Waco, Texas to Edward Postell and Annie Mae Flye Postell. Lavada married Oscar Thomas Jr. November 12, 1940 in Haskell, Texas and to this union there were eight children born. Lavada worked at the sewing factory in Stamford for many years, in many homes helping people and as a cook at the Sagebrush Living Center until her retirement. She was a faithful member of the Solomon Temple Baptist Church in Stamford.
She is survived by two sons, Bennie Thomas and wife Judy of Stamford, Charles Thomas and wife Mary of Albuquerque, New Mexico, 3 daughters, Clara Thompson and husband Al of Houston, Minnie Daniels and husband William of Houston, and Gwenda Hooper and fiancé Kary Baker of Victorville, California, one sister in law, Joyce Thomas of Goree, Tx, two sisters, Florene Hornsby of Stamford and Ima Jean Session of Knox City, Texas, 25 grandchildren,, and host of great grand and great great grandchildren that span four generations, and a host of Nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years, two daughters, Lilly Bell Thomas, and Verna E. Hill, one son, Billy Joe Thomas, one grandson, Darnell Thomas.
