Hilda Emma Nauert Kieke was born May 13, 1922 in Stamford, Texas, the youngest of nine children born to Herman William Nauert and Linnie Mueller Nauert. Hilda was raised in the Haskell County area and attended school in the Plainview community school. She married Leonard John Kieke on June 22, 1940. She and Leonard farmed at Rule and then north of Stamford for over sixty years. Their home, built in 1925 by her father, was somewhat of a landmark on the Aspermont Highway. Hilda lived in this house from the age of three until she married. She and Leonard acquired it in the early 50’s. Since that time, she hosted countless family and friends for meals, domino games, dances, ( in the early days), and celebrations of all sorts, even weddings in this home which she continued to enjoy until a short residency at the Stamford Country Elegance Assisted Living. Hilda had many interests in her life, none more important to her than here family, friends, and church. She was a faithful member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Sagerton. Hilda played in a fast-pitch softball league in her younger years. She loved to bowl and she and Leonard both enjoyed bowling in the leagues in Abilene. She received the Conservation Homemaker of the year award from the Home Extension Service. She has sewn, quilted, crocheted, and created many beautiful pieces. She has done ceramics, stained glass, and once after discovering an interest in woodworking, she gave Leonard a table saw for Christmas so she could borrow it for her latest project. She loves games of all kinds, especially cards and dominoes.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 4 brothers, Herman, Edwin, Richard, and Herbert, and 4 sisters, Olga Nauert Marugg, Annie Nauert Klose, Ella Nauert, and Emma Nauert Blackwell.
