Jo Brown of Abilene and formerly of Stamford passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 13, 2015. She was 82 years old.
Mary Jo Brown was born on August 8, 1932, in New Albany, Indiana to Harry J. and Jean (Small) Nolen. She was reared and schooled in Indiana. Jo and Dave Brown were united in marriage June 29, 1948 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The Browns moved to Guymon Oklahoma where they resided until 1962, relocated to West Texas in 1963, prior to settling in Stamford permanently in 1965. Jo and Dave were blessed with four children; Donna, Annette, David and Mike who were all graduates of Stamford High School and proud Bulldogs.
Jo worked for a number of years at the sewing factory in Stamford. She and her husband owned and operated Thompson Hardware in Stamford. She worked for home health as a sitter. Jo was a Catholic.
Survivors include; two daughters, Donna Davis and husband David of Haskell, Texas and Annette Adkins of Abilene, Texas; two sons, David Brown and wife Kathy of Austin, Texas and Mike Brown and wife Kay of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren, Kristin Cordero and husband Steven, Matt Brown, Scott Brown and wife Amanda, Allison Schmidt and husband Landon, Clayton Adkins, and Ashley Covert and husband Chance; 10 great grandchildren.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 64 years, a sister Eloise Johnson, a brother Donald Nolen, a son-in-law Chuck Adkins, and a daughter-in-law Francine Brown.
Cremation services have been selected and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel (807 S. Columbia Street) with the Rev. James Brigham officiating and under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home in Stamford. The family will be receiving visitors at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday until service time.
