Billy Joe Mckeever

Billy Joe McKeever was born August 26, 1928 in the Berryhill community in Shackelford county to Joseph S. and Fannie Lee McKeever. He passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the age of 86. Billy graduated from Stamford High School in 1945 and attended Abilene Christian College on a football scholarship where he received all conference honors his sophomore year. He married his high school sweetheart, Billie Jean Wedeking and to this union there were two sons born, Joseph Andrew and James Michael. Billie Jean passed away at a young age. Billy Joe later married Beth Thompson on July 21, 1962 and to this union there were born 2 daughters, Mandy and Kristi. Billy was a long time member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Stamford and was involved in various areas of the church for many years and was also a former board member for the Stamford Independent School District.
He farmed all of his adult life
He is survived by his wife, Beth McKeever of Stamford, 2 sons, Andy McKeever and wife Lisa and Mike McKeever and wife Susie all of Stamford, 2 daughters, Mandy Gott and husband David of Round Mountain, Texas and Kristi Gray of Stanton, Texas, 7 grandchildren, Brady Simpson, Blake Simpson, Kathryn McKeever, Renee Vallejo and husband Jordan, Grayson Gray, Zachary McKeever and Kolter Gray, and two great grandchildren, Lily and Eligh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, two sisters, Nona McKeever and Retha Mae Ivy, and 3 brothers, Leo McKeever, Wilbur McKeever, and Stanley McKeever, 1 grandson, Beau Simpson, and 1 son in law, Jim Bob Simpson. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Stamford with Rev. John Erwin officiating. Burial will follow at the Spring Creek Cemetery in Avoca. The family will be receiving friends at the Tankersley Funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m.
