On Wednesday, February 4, 2015, Jean Weaver of Stamford, Texas, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, taking with her hard working ethics and love she had for her family. She was 94 years old.
Dorothy Jean Leach was born June 27, 1920, in Floyd County Texas to Claude and Stella (Childress) Leach. She graduated from Rotan High School during the time your high school education was completed after 11 years. Jean lived in numerous towns and states moving with her family as they follow oil field work.
Jean came to the Big Country area in 1956. She never seemed to find a job too big to tackle; she was a hard working woman in the public work force and at home. She began her working career as a telephone operator in Rochester, Texas and closed her working years cooking at the Stamford VIP. Throughout her life she worked for Jimmy Turner Insurance Co., Stamford Insurance Co., Gem Drilling, and had a home bookkeeping business. When she had time she would work at the Star Produce for Sybil and Durwood Young. For several years Jean was the co-owner of the Super Dog and also worked for the Dixie Dog. Even into her 90’s she continued to mow her grass. Jean spent her life caring for her home and family, who were her pride and joy.
Jean was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, and a former member of the Stamford Garden Club and Stamford Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Survivors include her son, Tommy Weaver and wife Janette or Marietta, GA; four daughters, Vicki Stephens and husband Keith of Stamford, TX, Cindy Stevenson of Austin, TX, Gloria Carlton of Sweetwater, TX, and Jackie Maddox of Hamlin, TX; one sister, Charlene Bishop of Stamford, TX; 10 grandchildren, Leigh Anne Esparaza, Jana Guerra, Michael Carlton, Meagan Marler, Justin Stephens, Derek Stevenson, Josh Stephens, Matt Weaver, Jordan Stephens and Erin Thompson; 17 great grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by a sister, Chrystelle Hawkins, a grandson John Bill Maddox and a great grandson, Ethan Stevenson.
Jean’s loved ones will be receiving friends and family Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 5-6 p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 S. Columbia St.). Her memory will be cherished at funeral services on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Wingrove officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in the Tuxedo Community under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
