Louise Virginia Cochran, 93, of Stamford went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, January 31, 2015. Funeral services have been set for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Solomon Temple Baptist Church in Stamford, Texas, with Rev. Donny Massey officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
Louise was born February 14, 1921 in Lee County Texas to Alex and Octavia McDowell. She was raised in the Lee County area and graduated High School there in 1939. She moved to Stamford in 1948. Louise married Jack Cochran on June 18, 1977 in Stamford, Texas. She was an active member of Solomon Temple Baptist Church for 67 years, serving as Mission and Choir president for many years. Louise was baptized at the age of 5 at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Lexington, Texas. She was employed at Stamford Manufacturing as a press supervisor and at Teakwood Manor nursing home as a nurse’s aide for over 20 years before retiring. Her hobbies included fishing, baking and serving God. She loved her church. Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Jack Cochran of Stamford, 1 son, Haywood Cooper and wife Stella of Omaha, Nebraska, 4 brothers, Evan McDowell, Alex Jr. and Willie McDowell, all of Lee County, Texas, and Clarence McDowell of Brownwood, Texas. 3 sisters, Helen Washington of Bryan, Texas, Yvonne McDowell of San Antonio, and Alene McDowell of Austin, Texas, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Charles Cooper, 4 brothers, T. McDowell, L.H. McDowell, George McDowell, and Haywood Simpson, and 2 sisters, Mae Ollie McDowell and Jewell Moore.
