Blanch is known to most as “Peaches”, an endearing nickname given to her by her family. Peaches was born to Clarence and Lorene McCown Raughton on August 23, 1925. She attended Berryhill Elementary and Lueders High School before marrying LH Simpson on November 23, 1943. LH and Peaches spent their lives as business partners. After LH returned from service in World War II, Peaches joined him on many truck driving trips and deliveries. They later owned and operated grain elevators in Ericksdahl, Sagerton, and Tuxedo. In 1960, they opened Simpson Steel Yard north of town on US Hwy 277. They retired from all business operations in 2006.
Peaches is preceded in death by her husband, LH, and her parents. She is survived by a son Danny Simpson of Hawley; two grandsons, Lane Simpson of Arkansas and Scott Simpson of Australia; two brothers, James Merle Raughton and wife Dorothy Jean of Paint Creek, Rudy Raughton and wife Cindy of Roscoe; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be nephews Jim Raughton, Craig Raughton, Nelson Coulter, Jimmy Sutton, Randy Denson, Ronny Denson, and Trevor Sutton.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Leon Joplin, Linda Martin, Billie Medford, and the staff of Hospice of the Big Country for the time and attention given to Peaches. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Rockdale Cemetery, 1213 E. Wells, Stamford, TX 79553 or Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford St, Abilene, TX 79605.
