Laverne Greene

Laverne Greene, 90, of Arlington, formerly of Stamford, went to be with her Lord Saturday, November 1, 2014.
Born to Fred and Ruby (Glaze) Moore, at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. N. Glaze on February 26, 1924, Laverne grew to love and nurture home life. She was baptized at age 13 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. She received her education at Anson High School. She was united in marriage to Walter Greene on August 10, 1941 in Albany, Texas. Walter and Laverne were the proud parents of Don, Paul and Jan. The Greene family moved from Stamford to Grand Prairie in 1952 and lived there until they moved back to the Anson and Stamford area in 1980 after Walter retired from being a self-employed construction contractor.
Laverne was first and foremost, a devoted mother and homemaker. She was “Betty Crocker” without the title. She loved her home and the time that she spent there taking care of her family. She will be lovely remembered for her delicious southern cooking, apron wearing, loving wife, mother, Mammee, and “Tennie”.
Laverne will be remembered for her living example of compassion and kindness to others, and her beautiful smile. She loved to make quilts. She made many beautiful ones and generously gave them away to friends, family and even strangers.
Survivors include her daughter Jan Knight of Leander, TX, two sons, Don Greene and wife Terri of Germany and Paul Greene and wife Debbie of Arlington, TX; two sisters, Emma Huber and Ava Nell McPherson both of Fort Worth, TX; two brothers, James Scott of Orange, TX Gene Scott of Nashville, TN and, 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Preceding Laverne in death were her parents and her husband.
Laverne’s loved ones will gather in her honor at 1:00 p.m. for Funeral Services on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel (807 S. Columbia Street) with the Rev. Jesse Morton officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
