Salomon Garcia Torres, 88, of Stamford, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 in an Abilene hospital. Rosary services will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2014 at Tankersley Funeral Home (807 S. Columbia Street). Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Stamford with Father Angelo Consemino officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
Salomon was born January 23, 1926 in Bastrop, Texas to Apolonia and Ascention Garcia Torres. He graduated from Bastrop High School in 1945. He served in the United States Army during WWII and received the Purple Heart. Salomon married Ruby Escobedo in 1948 in Lubbock, Texas, the young couple moved to Stamford and established their home where they lived and raised their family. Salomon was a barber, and also was employed as a maintenance worker and truck driver for the Texas Department of Transportation for over 15 years. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Stamford.
He is survived by 2 sons: Jaime Torres Sr. and wife Mary of Abilene and Edward Torres of Fort Worth, 2 daughters, Deliah Lopez of Abilene and Christina Allison and companion Larry Denson of Stamford, 10 grandchildren, Rosa Linda Lopez, Fernando Lopez, Melinda Smith and husband Michael, Maria Jeter, Jaime Torres Jr. and wife Connie, Jason Torres and wife Lisa, Rosa Maria Saucedo and husband Joe, Matthew Torres, Mark Torres, Denise Miguel and husband Robert, 21 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 64 years, 2 sons, Armando Torres Sr. and Ralph Torres, 1 grandson, Armando Torres Jr. and 1 brother, Joel Torres.
