Wayne R. Wash, born February 15, 1936 in Stamford, Texas went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 2, 2014. Homily and Graveside services will be at Bethel Lutheran Church in the Ericksdahl community of Avoca, Texas on Monday, October 6th at 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, October 7th at 2:00 pm. Friends will be received by the family after the Tuesday service at Grace Church. Both services will be officiated by Wayne's friend and pastor, Reverend Scott Campbell. Arrangements are by Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford, Texas. Son of Nat and Theresa Wash, Wayne was a natural athlete. Wayne played football and captained the Stamford High Bulldogs in the early fifties under the legendary Gordon Wood. In his book "Coach of the Century", Wood described Wayne as "A perfect gentleman and a superb athlete". Wayne was a letterman for the University of Texas Longhorns from 1954-1957. To the end, he was a proud Stamford Bulldog and Texas Longhorn. Wayne married Peggy Joyce Harvick on November 2, 1957. Wayne was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman. His career in sales and management included Plains Meat Company, Hillcrest Country Club, Cree Meadows Country Club, The Winner's Circle, and Wayne's Place in Ruidoso, NM. Most recently, he served as librarian and archivist at Fanning, Fanning, and Associates. Wayne was a man of faith and action. Wayne was most proud of his family and his church, where he actively served. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Nat and Theresa Wash and brother Joe Wash. Those left to cherish his memory include wife Peggy Joyce Harvick Wash, Brother Mike Wash and wife Jana of Austin, Texas, Nancy Wash Gardner and husband Johnny of Garland, Texas, Joe's wife Kay Wash, Daughters Jamie Lyn Wash Becknal and husband Mike, Edie Kay Wash Fanning and husband Scott, Grandchildren Erin Becknal Ehler and husband Jody, Katie Becknal Dannheim and husband Lucas, Tyler Wayne Fanning, and Bonnie Brooke Fanning and fiancé Greg Wright. Great Grandchildren who will inherit his legacy are Jadyn Dannheim, Jayce Ehler, Jack Dannheim, and Graham Ehler.
