Ola Fay Gray (Ruby Fay) was born in Breckenridge, Texas on June 21, 1928. She was the one of nine children born to W. A. and Lottie Gray.
She spent her childhood in Breckenridge, Texas and graduated from Breckenridge High School. She was Miss Legget Drive in Abilene in 1964. On October 2, 1965 Ruby Fay married Lee Roy Nauert at Grace Lutheran Church in Abilene, TX. In 1972 Ruby Fay began working in the career she loved, working with clothes, when she and her husband Lee Roy bought Peerless cleansers. The couple purchased a farm in Funston and a ranch near Nugent in 1980. They lived at the ranch for several years prior to selling it and moving to Stamford in 2007. Ruby and Lee Roy enjoyed dancing and were members of several dance clubs in Abilene and the Sons of Hermann Lodge in Old Glory. She enjoyed having a garden and loved animals, even the homeless strays that she cared for.
Ruby Fay resembled the many angels she collected as she encouraged people through life. She carried herself with the charm and gracefulness of a truly southern lady. She was an enthusiastic member of many organizations, including volunteering at Loving Care Ministries for 17 years, worked with Kids Hope in Stamford for 7 years, worked tirelessly for the Stamford Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, and participated in many capacities.
Ruby Fay will be remembered not only for her personal and career accomplishments, her graciousness throughout her long battle with memory loss but especially for her beautiful smile which let us know that her loving and kind spirit was present through the moment she died. She was dearly loved by all of her family and will be deeply missed.
Ruby’s memory will remain alive by her husband of almost 49 years, Lee Roy Nauert of Stamford, TX; sisters, Monte Ratchford and husband Dr. Clifton of Weatherford, TX and Margie Hicks and husband Neil of Seminole, TX; numerous brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
