Noma Yvonne Handrick Hansen was born on August 25, 1935 to Walter and Edna (Hearne) Handrick. She passed from this earth on July 19, 2014 at the age of 78. Albany born and raised, Yvonne attended school at Albany and continued her education in Lueders. She married her beloved husband, Kenneth Hansen, on September 3, 1951, and they settled in the Ericksdahl Community.
Yvonne loved life; she loved her family, friends, her pets, nature and she loved God. Her Aunt Lilly taught her the importance of faith and through her Lutheran heritage laid a strong foundation of Christian values. Yvonne instilled into her children and grandchildren how a belief in God helped shape and sustain her life. We…her family appreciate and thank her for her love and compassion, faith example and Christian legacy.
As a newly married couple, Yvonne and Kenneth worked as a team in their farming operation. She assisted with many aspects of their agricultural business. As the bookkeeper for the Hansen’s farming operation, Yvonne was instrumental in submitting records that won the Hansen family the “Family Farmer of the Year Award” and numerous other related awards. Her motivation provided the finishing finesse for Kenneth’s brawn. She was the wind beneath the wings for their daughter Becky, who attributes her faith, love of life, and artistic development to her mother’s encouragement (and supportive father). Yvonne also worked at the Farmers State Bank in Lueders, was a bookkeeper at the Stamford Cotton Oil Mill, and worked as secretary-treasurer for Former Congressman Charles Stenholm’s campaign office. She had a knack for studying and learning. These passions took her back to school at the Stamford Memorial Hospital Nursing School where she became a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). She worked at Teakwood Manor Nursing Home as the Director of Nurses for several years.
Yvonne worked tirelessly helping with her children’s academic achievements and school activities, be it serving as a room mother. FHA sponsor, or helping with the 4-H steers. She loved the time her granddaughters visited their farm, and enjoyed teaching them valuable life lessons. Yvonne was a devoted pet owner and a caregiver to animals in need. She rescued and nurtured many animals.
She was a lady who dearly loved the outdoors. She enjoyed spending the summer in Ruidoso, NM and the winter in the Texas Valley. She was an independent spirit who loved to travel! Music to her was listening to the frogs croaking when the little creek was running beside their country home. Her sense of humor and fun loving nature was a source of inspiration to many, including her special caregivers in the last years of her life.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, son Bryant Hansen, grandson Phillip Hansen and her sister Bettye Hazle. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Hansen of Ericksdahl, daughter and son-in-law Becky and David Williams of Buffalo Gap, TX; two granddaughters, Lindsey Majors of Denver, CO and Avery Majors Bechtel and husband Josh of Salido, CO
