Linda Lee Hughes, 72, of Stamford passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 in Abilene. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel at 807 S. Columbia in Stamford, TX. Burial will follow at the Spring Creek Cemetery in Avoca with Rev. John Hurst officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 until 7 p.m.
Linda was born February 27, 1942 in Dallas, Texas to Wayne and Lela Leachman. She was raised in the Dallas area and graduated from the Pleasant Grove High School in 1962. Linda had been a resident of the Stamford area since 1974. She married Jerry Hughes on June 15, 1979. Linda worked for Commodore Savings and Loan in Stamford for 15 years before her retirement. Linda loved to go fishing and gardening.
Surviving Linda are her husband, Jerry “Squeaky” Hughes of Stamford, 3 sons, Raymond King of Dallas, TX, Dodey Hughes of Kemp, TX, and John Hurst and wife Rachel of Desoto, TX, 2 daughters, Sonja Caldwell and husband Ronny of Rochester, TX, and Mitzi Culpepper and husband John of Stamford, TX, 2 sisters, Louise Hanson and Lynne Cooper and 1 brother in law W. T. Bryant all of Payne Springs, TX. 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
