Nicholas Wayne Huggins Jr., 59, of Abilene, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014. Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Monday, May 5, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Stamford under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at the Spring Creek Cemetery in Avoca. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 until 6 P.M.
Nicholas was born November 10, 1954 in Stamford to Wayne and Frankie Huggins. He was raised in the Stamford area and graduated from Stamford High School in 1973. He was saved at a vacation bible school at the First Baptist Church in Stamford as a youngster. After high school, Nicholas joined the United States Air Force, serving seven years and then serving another three years in the Air Force Reserve. While in the Air Force, Nicholas met Sharon Rich and they were married on November 27, 1982 in Montrose, New York. Nicholas and Sharon lived in New York for eighteen years before moving to Abilene in 2004. He graduated from military college with a degree in law enforcement and was working as a correctional officer at the French Robertson Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and is a member of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of the home, three children, Jeremy of Canton, Georgia and Nicole and Bryan, both of Abilene, 1 grandson, Christian and 1 granddaughter, Lizzie, his parents, Wayne and Frankie Huggins of Sagerton 1 brother, Tim and wife Margaret of Avoca and their children and grandchildren, 2 adopted daughters, Tiffany and Angelique. His surviving family in New York are Dorothy, Winnie and Kevin, John and Florence, Jim and June, and Martin and nieces and nephews and sister in law Carol in Montana and her girls and 1 aunt, Judy of Abilene.
