Marjorie Constance Haterius

On Tuesday, February 18, 2014, Marjorie Haterius, 91, passed away taking with her the sweet smile, wit and compassion she shared with those who knew and loved her. The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 20th at Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 S., Columbia Stamford, TX. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 21, 2014 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl with the Rev. Teresa Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
Marjorie Constance Rosenquist was born August 15, 1922, in Stamford, Texas. She was the oldest of three children born to Swedish settlers Martha (Olson) and Eric Rosenquist. She began her education at Swenson School in Ericksdahl and graduated from Stamford High School in 1939. Marjorie continued her education at Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas.
On December 30, 1943, Marjorie and Birger Haterius made history in the Ericksdahl Community. They were the first couple to be united in marriage in the current Bethel Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with four children, Stephen, Ingrid, Craig and Ricky.
Marjorie was a lifetime member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl. She quietly served in her church and community. She was a member of the WELCA, Willing Workers and taught Sunday school. Marjorie and Birger volunteered as sponsors for the Luther League enriching many wonderful memories for the Bethel youth, from sponsoring summer camping trips, car washes and monthly socials, to helping cook Easter Breakfast. Marjorie was always present and willing to cook for any meal when a special need arose. Marjorie and her husband Birger were also dedicated volunteers to the youth of Stamford. For almost 15 years they spent their Friday and Saturday nights opening the Youth Center better known as the (Dog House). The Stamford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) was another organization to which she donated many years of service. Marjorie and her late husband were also engaged in agriculture, running a farming and cattle operation.
She is survived and missed by many: daughter Ingrid Andrus of Austin, TX; three sons, Stephen Haterius and wife Virginia of Arlington, VA., Craig Haterius and wife Gail of Mineral Wells, TX, Ricky Haterius and wife Cynthia of Colorado Springs, CO; one sister Becky Nauert and husband Leland of Stamford, TX; one brother Melvin Rosenquist and wife Nell of Ericksdahl; 8 grandchildren Leah Pruitt and husband Jacob, Erika Agnew and husband John, Stephanie Talley and husband Drew, Carrie Toruta and husband Davin, Jennifer Roewe and husband Roger, Derrick Haterius and wife Jennifer, Sven Haterius and wife Kristin and Nils Haterius; 13 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents and her husband.
The family sincerely expresses their appreciation and thanks to the many family members and friends who have lifted Marjorie’s spirits and brightened her days the past 10 years. Your love, support and visits were so special to her.
