Robert “Bob” Gaines, age 86 of Rowlett, TX, passed away January 8, 2014. He was born March 27, 1927, in Bernalillo, NM, to Enoch and Mary Gaines. Bob served his country in the Navy during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Wisconsin. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Rockwall. Bob worked for the Galveston, Houston, Texarkana, TX and Freeport ISDs, retiring from Freeport as Assistant Superintendent. Having been raised in New Mexico, Bob was trained by his Uncle Kay in the art of Western Indian jewelry making and his love of the Southwest also came to life in his paintings. He was an avid fisherman and woodcarver. Bob established the Lake Ray Hubbard Woodcarving Club.

Bob is survived by his wife: Charlene Gaines of Rowlett, TX; step-son: Randy Smith and wife Sharon of Rowlett, TX; sister: Betty Rogers and brothers: Roy Gaines and wife Geri and Bill Gaines and wife Nita, all of Hodge, LA; grandchildren: Kimberly Charlene Smith of Austin, TX, Kristopher Truett Smith and Kurtis Robert Smith, both of Rowlett, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Karen Louise Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00pm. Graveside services will be 2:00pm on Sunday in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford, TX under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
