Mary Delma Thatcher

Delma Thatcher, 96, of Stamford, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Stamford with Dr. Jacob West and Rev. Dennis Huffaker officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, December 15 at Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 Columbia Street.
Delma Hughes was born on September 24, 1917 in Hill County Texas to Louis and Alice (Clements) Hughes. She graduated from high school in the Hillsboro area.
Delma married J. C. Buntin in Hill County Texas on July 28, 1935. J.C. and Delma were blessed with five children, Joyce, Kathryn , LaVinda, Jimmy and Gary. The Buntin’s moved to Stamford in 1980. J. C. and Delma were married for 64 years prior to his death December 20, 1999. On September 8, 2000 Delma married Pete Davis in Funston, TX. Pete preceded her in death on February 26, 2007. Delma and Howard Thatcher were united in marriage on June 16, 2013 in Burket, TX. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stamford. Velma worked at the Stamford VIP Center for several years, and after retirement she enjoyed participating in activities, playing dominoes and visiting with friends.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Thatcher of Avoca, 3 daughters, Joyce Howard and husband Ron of Arapahoe, Colorado, Kathryn Clark of Hawley, and LaVinda Suson of Decatur, 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren.
Delma was preceded in death by 2 sons, Jimmy Buntin, Jr. and Gary Buntin; her parents, 2 husbands, J. C. Buntin and Pete Davis; 2 sisters, Alma Ruth Miller and Fay Nell Russell; 2 brothers, Jimmy Hughes and Ernest Hughes.
