Flora Mae Olson, also known as “Flo” and “Granny”, went to her long awaited home in heaven on Monday, November 25, 2013, she was 86 years old.
Born to Alfred and Mary (Teichelman) Rinn on August 7, 1927, she was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a 1944 graduate of Stamford High School, where she was a member of the Bulldog Band and the tennis team. She married Marvin Olson on January 24, 1945 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl. Marvin and Flo were the proud parents of two children, Diane and Denis. Flo was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Flo devoted her life to taking care of her family. She spent endless hours working on the farm, and at Rule Jayton Oil Co. In 1973, Flo suffered a stroke, and from this illness she found a new talent, painting, which she did for therapy. She spent endless hours mastering her painting skills taking lessons and working in her home studio. She was always delighted for someone to notice her work and appreciate it. Flo was a member of the former gift shop, Yours, Mine and Ours, once located in downtown Stamford, where she sold her painted wares.
Left to cherish Flo’s memories are: a daughter Diane Grisby and husband John; of Tyler, TX; a son, Denis Olson and wife Aline of Avoca, TX; a brother Roland Rinn and wife Alvena of Houston, TX; 10 grandchildren, Kim and husband Michael of Bullard, TX, Tiffany and husband Ty of Midilothian, TX, Leah and husband Cody of Tyler, TX, John Grigsby, Jr. or Houston, TX, Melissa of Lueders, TX, Michael and wife Mylinda of Aspermont, TX, Crystal and husband Jerry of May Pearl, TX, Christy of Killeen, TX, Sandi and husband Matt of Abilene, TX, and Gerry of Weatherford, TX. Flo had 25 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Flo was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Marvin, her parents, two brothers, Dan Rinn and Marvin Rinn.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl with the Rev. Teresa Davis and Rev. Dennis Huffaker officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery, under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
