Thula Rose Perry

Thula Rose Perry, 91, of Stamford and formerly of Haskell went to her long awaited home in heaven Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Graveside funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2013 at Willow Cemetery in Haskell with Rev. Kelly Piggott officiating. Services are under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 S. Columbia, Stamford, Texas.

Thula was born to Matt and Viola Keathley on January 5, 1922 in Hill County Texas.
She graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas. She married Howard Perry, Jr. on February 6, 1943 in Dallas, Texas. Howard and Thula established their home in Haskell, Texas, where they owned and operated Perry Motor Company until Howard’s death in 1980. Thula continued her education at Western Texas College and graduated in 1985.
She worked for the Texas State Department of Public Welfare for many years.

Granny devoted her life to her two sons, their wives, grandchildren and great grand children. She had a keen whit, was proud to be a long time member of the National Democratic Party, was a Presbyterian and was a regular at the Haskell Dairy Queen coffee group. Thula was a lifetime member of the T.F.W.C. Mesquite District Haskell Progressive Study Club, and was honored as club woman of the year by the Mesquite District.

Thula is survived by two sons, William Howard (Bill) Perry and wife Kay of Stamford and Tommy K. Perry and wife Monisa of Lubbock; Three grandchildren, William Matthew Perry of Lubbock, Amanda Johnson and husband Brice of Abilene, and Kayla Starnes and husband Kevin of Hurst; three great grandchildren, Braxton Johnson, Kirby Starnes and Kennedy Starnes.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the First Presbyterian Church fellowship hall in Haskell immediately following the services.
