Martell Tankersley, known to all as “Granny,” left this world on Friday, August 23rd, just shy of her 93rd birthday. She is celebrating in Heaven alongside her Savior Jesus, her beloved husband E.H., her eldest son Bobby, her granddaughter Jodie, and great-granddaughter Crystal. Granny had long awaited this reunion.
Born to Ernest and Floy Goodson in Comanche County on August 30, 1920, Martell adored life on the farm. She moved to Haskell County as a young girl and remained a resident in the area for most of her days. She married E.H. Tankersley on November 28, 1937 and made a happy home filled with the sounds of gospel music and the smell of bacon. E.H. and Martell were the proud parents of Bobby Aaron, Frances Lynelle, and Jimmy Neal.
Granny devoted her life to taking care of her family. She will be lovingly remembered for her endless supply of bottled cokes, her love of pulling a trailer, her delicious southern cooking, and countless other things that conjure a picture of a weed-killing, hairnet-wearing, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and farmer.
Those rejoicing her life are: a daughter, Nell Williams and husband Ken of Abilene; a son, Jimmy Tankersley and wife Ann of Knox City; a daughter-in-law, Judy Tankersley Mitchell and husband Jim of Wichita Falls. Grandchildren include Payton Tankersley and wife Kristi of Knox City, Shane Tankersley Porter and husband Scott of Wichita Falls, Kim Clonts and husband Greg of Knox City, Ken Williams II of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lawri Lynn and husband Scott of Knox City, Boyce Tankersley and wife Maria of Abilene, and April Mercer and husband Matt of Abilene. Martell and E.H. had 21 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great –grandchildren.
Granny’s loved ones will gather in her honor for graveside funeral services on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Knox City cemetery. She was loved by us all.
