David Lee Brown, 82, of Abilene and formerly of Stamford passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel in Stamford with Rev. James Brigham officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
David was born May 12, 1931 in Clyde, Kansas to Mattison and Rosetta Brown. He and his family moved to Indiana when he was just a child. He was raised there and graduated high school in 1948 in New Albany, Indiana. He married Jo Nolen on June 29, 1948 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. To this union 4 children were born. David and Jo moved to Stamford TX in 1967. He was the Manager of the McDonalds Department Store in Stamford for many years and retired in 1969. David was an officer in the Elks lodge and a member of the Stamford Lions Club. His passion was flying
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jo Brown of Abilene, 2 daughters, Donna Davis and husband David of Haskell, and Annette Adkins of Abilene, 2 sons, David Brown and wife Kathy and Mike Brown and wife Kay, all of Austin, 6 grandchildren, Kristin Cordero and husband Steven, Matt Brown, Scott Brown and wife Amanda , Allison Schmidt and husband Landon, Clayton Adkins, and Ashley Covert and husband Chance, and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son in law, Chuck Adkins, 1 brother, W. W. Brown, and 1 sister, Clarice West.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Hendrick Medical Center and Drs. Joe Ferguson, Udaya Swarna, and Neil Gibson for their wonderful care to our loving husband and father.
The family also requests that memorials in David’s name be sent to the Abilene Meals on Wheels, 117 N. 10th St., Abilene, Texas 79601.
