Raymond "Butch" Kohout

Raymond “Butch” Kohout, 67, after a three year battle with cancer, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on April 13, 2013.
Butch was born on November 16, 1945 in Stamford, Texas to John and Marie Kohout. He was a lifelong resident of Stamford. He graduated from Paint Creek High School in 1964. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stamford where he ministered to many through his many years as a servant to Christ at the men’s brotherhood breakfast. Butch was a dedicated employee at General Welding Works from 1968 – 1985 when it closed its doors. He then worked for Stamford Welding Supply until 2008. He has been employed by the City of Stamford streets and parks department from 2008-2013. In his spare time, Butch enjoyed his time with friends and his family. He loved being a Poppa to his grandkids and great granddaughter. He was an amazing husband for 43 years and a wonderful father. He always enjoyed sharing breakfast and coffee at the “round table” at the Cliff House in Stamford with his dear friends. His time working at the City of Stamford brought many friendships. He loved taking the young guys under his wing and showing them the ropes. His love for people and willingness to lend a hand was endless. Butch loved to hunt, fish and participate in cook-offs. He enjoyed being involved in the Texas Cowboy Reunion from being a rodeo clown in 1966 to participating in the wild mare race, riding in the Grand Entry and parades, being a frequent winner in area cook-offs and helping the Mathis boys prepare the grounds for the annual Texas Cowboy Reunion. He was a true cowboy at heart and was never afraid of hard work.
Butch is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Howard, Theodore, Robert and David, and one sister-in-law, Norma Kohout.
He is survived by his wife Sherrell “Cheri” Cooper Kohout of Stamford, two daughters, Leslie Kuenstler and her husband Ky of Stamford and Misty Williams of Lubbock, two grandchildren, Kelsie Salazar and her husband Hector, of Stamford and Kyler Kuenstler of Stamford, 1 great granddaughter, Kenzlie Salazar, three sisters-in-law, Maxie Kohout of Stamford, Fefa Kohout of Poughkeepsie, New York, and Addline Kohout of Stamford, one brother-in-law, Dickie Cooper and his wife Jeryl Anne, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
A memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Stamford with Rev. Jacob West officiating, and under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford.
A special thank you to Dr. Christopher Trauth, Dr.Victor Hirsch, Dr.Jose Vega, and Dr.Gary Goodnight and all of the wonderful nurses and care givers on the 7th floor at Hendrick Medical Center. Their care and kindness is unmatched.
