David Anton Letz, 86, of Abilene, formerly of Sagerton, Texas passed away on April 9, 2013. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Sagerton, Texas with parish ministers Dean and Patsy Quade officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Glory Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford. Viewing will be held at Tankersley Funeral Home from 5-7 pm, Friday, April 12, 2013.
David Letz, son of Tony and Louise Letz, was born January 7, 1927 on a farm in Stonewall County, Texas. David attended Flat Top School in Haskell County (just south of Sagerton, Texas) and afterwards Old Glory Schools in Stonewall County. There he met and courted Leona Thane. David and Leona were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Sagerton, Texas on July 25, 1946.
David and Leona settled on a family farm in Stonewall County where they lived and worked for more than 20 years, raising their three children. In 1971, they moved to Sagerton, Texas where they lived until December 2009. David continued to farm well into his senior years and was active in his local church. Hunting, fishing and gardening were his favorite past times.
David passed from this life on April 9, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona, his parents, Tony and Louise Letz, his brother Edward Letz, his sister, Laura Gerloff, his brother-in-law James Kolb, and his son-in-law Richard Peterson, husband to Cynthia.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Bob Kirby, his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Ron Galloway, his son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Debbie Letz, six grandchildren, Tony Peterson and wife Audrey, Sam Peterson, April Speed and husband Corey, Amber Ramirez and husband George, Alan Letz and wife Jennifer, Matt Galloway and wife Jennifer, seven great grandchildren, Shane and Alec Galloway, Kailyn Speed and Addison Speed, Jacob Ramirez, Elizabeth Letz and David Letz and sister Angeline Kolb and sister-in-law Betty Letz.
Pallbearers will be Tony Peterson, Sam Peterson, Alan Letz, Matt Galloway, Corey Speed, George Ramirez and Jimmy Grisham.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that all memorials be sent to Faith Lutheran Church, Highway 283, Sagerton, Texas 79548. Designate to which charity the church will disburse the memorial.
