Jean Morton

April 6, 1925 — April 5, 2013

Eva Jean Morton, 87, of Stamford, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 5, 2013. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, at the Temple Baptist Church in Stamford with Rev. Jessie Morton officiating. Burial will follow at the Spring Creek Cemetery in Avoca under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home in Stamford. The family will be receiving friends at the Temple Baptist Church from 2 p.m. until service time.
Jean was born April 6, 1925 on a farm in Jones County to O. M. and Susie Willett. She attended school at the Berryhill Community School in Jones County. She married Matt Lusk and to this union, 1 son was born. She later married J. C. Morton on March 2, 1946 and to this union 3 sons were born. Jean worked at the sewing factory in Stamford for several years and then at Perry Brothers Five and Dime for 25 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church where she was the church secretary. She was a wonderful Mom and a great Mamaw.
Survivors include 2 sons, Jessie Morton and wife Vickie of Stamford, Stanley Morton and wife Patty of Ivanhoe, Texas, 1 sister, Mary Newell of Abilene, 19 grandchildren, Lynn Lambert and husband Greg, Johnny Lusk and wife Jackie, Lynetta Hancock, Jessie Morton Jr. and wife Kellye, Amy Copsey and husband Ron, David Morton and wife Cydni, Carrie Hendrix and husband Steve, Shelia Buchanan and husband Beau, Cyrus Morton, Dustin Morton, Jessica Morton, Kamryn Morton, Brenda Morton, Rebecca Morton, Raymond Morton, Matthew Morton, Alicia Widmer and husband Lance, Allysa Johnson and husband Isaiah, and Chase Smith, 32 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sons, Paul Lusk, and Jerry Morton, 3 sisters, Vivian Peters, Lillian Bledsoe, and Ima Henry, 5 brothers, Dewey Willett, Jim Willett, Thurman Willett, Osbon Willett Jr. and Ira Willett, and 1 grand daughter, Genia Dianna Morton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Temple Baptist Church, P. O.
Box 209, Stamford, Texas 79553.
