Leroy Marvin Nehring, 89, of Stamford, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Sagerton with Rev. Anna Robbins officiating, assisted by Dean and Patsy Quade. Burial with military honors will follow at the Old Glory Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 S. Columbia, Stamford. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 until 7 p.m.
Leroy was born October 14, 1923 in Taylor, Texas to Charles and Bertha Nehring. He was raised in Taylor and graduated from Taylor High School in 1941. Leroy enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1941 until 1946. Leroy moved back to Taylor following his tour with the U.S. Navy. He went to work for the Alcoa Aluminum Plant and also engaged in farmed. On April 8, 1948, in Freeport, TX, Leroy married the love of his live, Pauline Muzny. In 1962, Leroy began his 35 year career with Germania Insurance, retiring in 1997. The Nehring Family moved from Taylor to Stamford in 1963. He was a member of the Sons of Hermann Lodge and the Faith Lutheran Church in Sagerton.
Survivors include 1 son, Larry Nehring and wife Darla of Anson, 1 daughter, Linda Crownover and husband, Rusty, of Weatherford, 1 sister, Alice Krueger of Conroe, TX, 1 brother, John Nehring and wife Dorothy of New Braunfels, 4 grandchildren, Justin Nehring and wife Kris, Ashley Thomas and husband Kurtis, Drew Crownover, and Cory Gazaway and husband Nate, 4 great grandchildren, Ethan Nehring, Elliott Nehring, Emory Nehring, and Kinsey Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 64 years, 3 brothers, Walter Nehring, Bill Nehring, and Edwin Nehring, and 2 sisters, Annie Krueger and Lillie Wade.
