Edgar Albert Morton

Edgar Albert Morton, 97, of Merkel and formerly of Stamford passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2012. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Temple Baptist Church in Stamford with Rev. Jessie Morton officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Creek Cemetery in Avoca under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home in Stamford.
Edgar was born April 15, 1915 in Albany, Texas to Cyrus and Annie Morton. His family moved to the Lueders-Avoca area when he was just a child. He married Retha Idell Walker on April 12, 1939 in Avoca. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He farmed in the Avoca area, worked for Eager Feed Mill for 14 years and Jones County Implement for 8 years before retirement.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Sandra Kay Thomas and husband Ricky of Merkel and Annie Lou Gilmore and husband Ronnie of Bangs, 1 son, Steve Morton and wife Sue of Stamford, 1 brother, Norman Morton and wife Sue of Little Rock, Arkansas, 6 grandchildren, Amy Gilmore Duke, Chris Gilmore, Steven Morton, Jason Morton, Michael Morton and Laura Schroeder, and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 66 years, 1 son, Nolan Morton, 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
