Alyeen Overby a long time resident of Stamford, Texas went to her heavenly home on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the Briarcliff Health Center in Tyler, TX. She was 89 years old.
Everett Alyeen Campbell was born May 10, 1923 in Wapanucka, OK to the late Mary Ray Campbell and George Campbell. She moved to Texas in 1926 and to Stamford in 1934. She lived in Stamford all her life other than a brief time during WWII.
Alyeen received her formal education at the Stamford schools where she graduated in 1939. She attended John Tarleton College in Stephenville, TX for two years before returning to Stamford. She married Lt. James W. Haas, Sr., in 1942. To this marriage was born a son, Jimmy Haas. Lt. James W. Haas, Sr., US Army Air Corps died in October 1944. In 1956, she married Howard Overby, a union lasting 50 years until his death in 2006.
Alyeen was very active in the Stamford First Baptist Church, Garden Club, Music Club, Stamford Hospital Auxiliary and many civic organizations. She was recognized as Woman of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce and for many years was a co-hostess of the annual Stamford Rodeo Coffee to honor the rodeo hostess and sponsor. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Eager Feed.
Alyeen was predeceased by her parents and two husbands. She is survived by sons, Jim Haas and wife, Karen; Steve Overby and wife, Debbie; grandchildren Christina Deprez (Francois) Katie Penfield (Chris), Peter Overby and Andrew Overby; great grandchildren, Zinho and Lofen Deprez; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Patti Campbell; nieces Melanie Dunn (Dan) and Connie Johnson (David); great nieces Lauren Hajek, Courtney Frazier (Aaron), Brittany Bishop, nephew Jon Dunn along with many loving friends.
The celebration service of Alyeen’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 S. Columbia Street, Stamford, TX with the Rev. Jacob West officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
