Jonnie Fae Boyd Shaw, 84, of Stamford, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, in an Abilene hospital. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2012, at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, 807 S. Columbia Street, with the Rev. Mary Glover officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until service time Friday morning.
Jonnie Tipton was born January 16, 1928 in Old Glory, Texas to the late Louis and Mattie Lovvorn Tipton. She attended Old Glory High School and graduated in 1945. Jonnie moved to Abilene to continue her education at clerical school, and worked for an attorney. While employed at the attorney’s office she began Beauty College. Jonnie married Thomas Harrell Boyd in 1946. Thomas preceded her in death in 1976. Jonnie owned and operated the Powder Puff Beauty Salon in Stamford from 1946 until 1972. Jonnie decided to change careers, and enrolled in Harding Simmons University and graduated from the Mary Meek School of nursing in 1975. She worked as a registered nurse at the Stamford Memorial Hospital until retiring in 1987. In 1980 Jonnie and Fred Shaw, Jr. were united in marriage. After retiring she began helping Fred with the farming operation of their farms. Fred preceded her in death in 2011.
She is survived by her son, Tom Boyd and wife Lynn; one granddaughter, Courtney Lynn Bryant and husband Dawson; one grandson, Keith Thomas Boyd; and one great grandson, Gage Byron Bryant, all of Abilene, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, one sister, Anita Rutherford, one brother, Bill Tipton, and one step son, Trey Shaw.
Because of her great love for nursing, the family requests that memorials be made in honor of Jonnie Fae Boyd Shaw to any of the nursing schools in Abilene.
