Maria Dela Luz Garcia

Maria Garcia, 82, of Stamford, passed away on Friday, May 04, 2012. Rosary services will be said at 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Stamford. Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Father George Roney officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
Maria Castro was born at Lorraine, TX, September 9, 1929 to Elijio and Nicolaza Vallejo Castro. Maria grew up in Texas and Mexico. On February 17, 1952 Maria married Steve Garcia in Acuna, Mexico. The couple returned to Lorraine, TX where Steve farmed for 6 years prior to going to work for the J. H. Strain Co. With Steve’s new job the family embarked on an adventure traveling around Texas until settling in Stamford in 1968. Maria was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and served in the Women’s Guild Organization. For many years Maria assisted with a lot of the cooking for various events held at the church. She was a homemaker and loving mom to her children.
Maria’s memory will be cherished by 5 sons, Jesse Garcia and wife Karen of Stephenville, TX, Pete Garcia and wife Betty of Abilene, TX, Steve Garcia and wife Sylvia of Stamford, TX, Raymond Garcia and wife Elizabeth and Ralph Garcia and wife Rosalinda all of Abilene; 5 daughters, Dora Fuentes and husband Ray of Plant City, Florida, Norma Johnson and husband Scott of Haskell, TX, Dolores Garcia and husband Joe, Sally Moreno and husband Demectrio, and Concha Garcia all of Stamford, TX; 2 brothers Juan Castro and wife Delia of Boerne and Raymondo Castro and wife Lupe of San Jose, CA. 37 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years, 1 son, Rudy, and 1 brother, Salvador Castro.
