Ludine Smith, 91, of Stamford, joined her husband in their home in heaven on Friday, January 06, 2012. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the Avoca Baptist Church in Avoca with Rev. Les Mims officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Creek Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford.
Ludine was born April 6, 1920 in Jones County to Alfred and Alice Davis. She began her education at Pleasant Valley School in Jones County and later attended school in Stamford. On September 2, 1937 Ludine married the love of her life W. D. “Peewee” Smith in Roby, Texas, to this union three children were born. She was a homemaker and loving mother and grandmother, a former member of the Berryhill quilting club and the Avoca Baptist Church. Ludine worked for Stamford Memorial Hospital and Skyview Living Center as a nurse’s aide. She was a professional seamstress and with that passion she expressed love for her family in the clothing and quilts she made for them. When Tanis was a twirler at Stamford High School, Ludine graciously gave of her time and talent to provide four sets of uniforms for all four twirlers.
Family left to cherish her memories are, one son, H. Wayne Smith and wife Mattie of Big Lake, TX; one daughter, Tanis Hager and husband Don of Paris, TX; one step brother, Ronald Davis of Houston and one step sister, Sandras Dipple, 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 68 years, 1 son, Fenton Smith and daughter in law, Patty, 8 brothers and sisters, and 1 step sister.
