Leona Thane Letz

Leona Thane Letz, 82, of Abilene and formerly of Sagerton, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2011. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Faith Lutheran Church in Sagerton, TX with Parish Ministers Dean and Patsy Quade officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Glory Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford. The family will be receiving friends at the church fellowship hall from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
Leona was born July 24, 1929 on a farm South of Stamford in Jones County Texas to Edwin and Dessie Thane. Edwin and Dessie moved their family to Stonewall County when Leona was one year old. Leona was schooled at Old Glory, Texas and married David Letz at the Zion Lutheran Church in Sagerton, Texas on July 25, 1946. David and Leona settled on a family farm in Stonewall County where they lived and worked for more than 20 years, raising their three children. In 1971, David and Leona moved to Sagerton, Texas where they lived until December 2009. Leona was a homemaker and active in her local church. Sewing and quilting were her favorite past times.
Survivors include her husband David, 2 daughters, Cynthia Kirby and husband Bob and Rebecca Galloway and husband Ron, , 1 son, Dave Letz and wife Debbie, six grandchildren, Tony Peterson and wife Audrey, Sam Peterson, April Speed and husband Corey, Amber Ramirez and husband George, Alan Letz and wife Jennifer, Matt Galloway and wife Jennifer, six great grandchildren, Shane and Alec Galloway, Kailyn and Addison Speed, Jacob Ramirez and Elizabeth Letz, two brothers, Jerry Thane and wife Joyce, and Leon Thane and wife Betty. She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 son-in-law Richard Peterson, Cynthia’s husband.
Pallbearers will be Tony Peterson, Sam Peterson, Alan Letz, Matt Galloway, Corey Speed, George Ramirez and Jimmy Grisham.
The family request that in lieu of flowers that all memorials be sent to the Faith Lutheran Church, Highway 283, Sagerton, Texas 79548. Designate to which charity and the church will disperse the memorials.
