Lee Elford Weaks

Lee E. Weaks passed away on June 6, 2011 in Lubbock, TX after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Spring Creek Cemetery in Jones County. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m.
Lee was born July 6, 1921 in Penial, TX to Elford and Claudia Lela (Gatlin) Cozby. She and Roy O'Neal Weaks were married on Nov. 30, 1939 in Abilene, TX and resided in Stamford, TX for many years where they operated a family plumbing business until Roy's death in 1989. Both Roy and Lee were very active in Fast Pitch Softball where they made many lifelong friends. Following Roy's death, Lee created a business called "Western Collectibles" and attended rodeos and cowboy symposiums where she presented papers on early settlers and told stories of colorful western characters. She had a keen interest in history and had a love of learning and enjoyed traveling. Lee was active in the Old Timers Association at the Texas Cowboy Reunion where she volunteered for many years during the rodeo. She was a member of the Garden Club in Stamford and taught Sunday School at St. John's United Methodist Church where she and her family were members. Lee was a Christian. Lee moved to Lubbock, TX when her health began to fail to be nearer her doctors and her family. A special thank you from the family is extended to the director and staff of Mackenzie House Assisted Living in Lubbock and the compassionate care of the staff of Vista Care Hospice. The last to touch a life is twice blessed.
Lee was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a stepmother, Annie Laura Vaughn Cozby, 2 sisters, Miriam Rogers and Melba Sandefur, and 1 grandson, Roger Dale Weaks.
Left to cherish her memory are son, Dr. Ronald Weaks and wife Judy of Greenville and son Roy Don Weaks and wife Pam,of Lubbock. Also celebrating the life of "Grandmother Lee" are grandchildren, Dr. Michael Weaks and wife Diane of Greenville, Roy Sean Weaks and wife Valerie of Frisco and Meagan Weaks of Lubbock. Lee was proud of her great grandchildren, Zachary, Nathan, and David Weaks of Greenville, Alison and Wesley Weaks of Frisco, and William Henderson of Lubbock. Lee is also survived by her brother, David Baxter Cozby of Princeton, TX. Lee's extended family of nieces, nephews, and dearly loved friends will remember her fondly.
In lieu of flowers, memeorials in Lee's name are suggested to the Tourette Syndrome Association of Texas, 3919 River Forest Drive, Richmond, TX 77406.
