Bernice Jerene Rowan

Bernice Jerene Rowan, 94, of Henrietta, Texas and formerly of O’Brien, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 20, 2011. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the O’Brien First Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Cameron officiating and assisted by grandson in law, Rusty Oglesby. Burial will follow in the Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford. The family will be receiving friends at the Smith Family Funeral Home in Knox City, Texas on Friday evening from 7 until 8 p.m.
Bernice was born October 14, 1916 in Haskell County to Ellis Herbert “Hub” and Clara (McWhorter) Tankersley. She was raised in the area and attended Cliff School. She married Walter Milton Rowan on December 25, 1936 in Knox City, Texas. Bernice was a homemaker, a member of the O’Brien First Baptist Church and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Survivors include two sons, Lowell Rowan and wife Sue of Denton, Texas, Jerry Rowan and wife Margaret of Henrietta, Texas, one daughter, Debi Burson and husband Trey of Haskell, Texas, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, Jack Tankersley, Jewel Tankersley, E. H. Tankersley Jr., and Lynn Tankersley, and one sister, Ruby Tankersley.
Serving as pallbearers will be C. H. Underwood, J. M. Emerson, David Albus, David Ellis, Paul Chambers, and E. G. “Mutt” Ivie.
The family requests that memorials be sent to the O’Brien Baptist Church, P. O. Box 88, O’Brien, Texas 79539.
