John M. Ivy, 94 years of age and formally of Stamford, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at Highlands, Texas. He was born January 29, 1917 in Stonewall County, Texas to John and Trezzie Ivy.
He graduated from Stamford High School. He continued his education at Abilene Christian College in Abilene, TX where he received his bachelor’s degree in math and a master’s degree in education.
Mr. Ivy served his country for almost two years in the United States Army, during World War II. John married the former Lucy Moore on December 21, 1940 in Abilene, TX. She preceded him in death in 1994. John taught school at Paint Creek, Texline, Perryton and Honey Grove.
John is survived by two sons, John Moore Ivy and wife Janice of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Rodney Ivy and wife Donna of Crosby, TX; two foster daughters, Fern Scott and husband Gary of Burleson, TX and Mary Ann Hotchkiss of Fort Worth, TX.; two sisters Pearleta Carothers of Lubbock, TX and Marie Patty of Desdemona, TX; 7 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister LaVeda Ray and two brothers Merle Ivy and Buel Ray Ivy
Graveside funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. , Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the Rockdale Cemetery in Haskell County with Stacy Patty and Tim Martin officiating and under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 28, 2011 from 6 until 7:30 p.m.
