Fred M. Shaw Jr., 76, of Stamford, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2011 in an Abilene hospital. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Stamford with Rev. Jacob West officiating. Interment will follow at the Spring Creek Cemetery in Avoca under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford. The family will be receiving friends at the Church Parlor from 1 until 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Fred was born December 6, 1934 in Stamford to Fred and Thelma Shaw. He was a lifetime resident of the area. Fred graduated from Paint Creek High School in 1952. He married Jonnie Tipton on Feb. 1, 1980. Fred was a farmer and worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for over 35 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stamford, and a former board member of both the Ericksdahl Coop. Gin and the Stamford Farmers Coop.
Survivors include his wife, Jonnie Shaw of Stamford, 2 sons, James Shaw and wife Lorena of Grand Prairie, TX, and Tom Boyd and wife Lynn of Abilene, 2 daughters, Manda Shaw of Houston and Kim Shaw of Bridgeport, TX, 2 brothers, Jim Shaw of Midland and Mike Shaw of Granbury, 3 sisters, Virginia LaRouche of Massachusetts, Burnelle Schmiz of Galveston, and Chris Owens of New Orleans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Dorothy and Sue and 1 son, Fred “Trey” Shaw.
