Richard Mickler, Jr., 81 of Lake Stamford passed away on Monday, February 07, 2011 at his residence.Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 12, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the Avoca Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Huffaker officiating. Military graveside rites will follow in the Willow Cemetery in Haskell, TX under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Richard was born August 31, 1929 in Jones County to Richard and Lucy Mickler. He was raised and educated in Jones County.He married Jerrine Marie Keegan on May 9, 1949 in Stamford. Jerrine preceded him in death on July 31, 2009 after 60 years of marriage. Early in life, Richard worked in the oil fields and owned and operated a gas service station and did custom combining from the mid 50’s until 1968. They moved to Spearman, Texas in 1964 and to Hereford in 1968 where he began farming, until 1990 when he began driving a truck for is son. Richard and Jerrine moved to Lake Stamford in 1995 when he retired. Richard was a member of the Avoca Methodist Church and a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by one daughter Vickie Weatherby of Aspermont, TX, two sons, Terry Mickler and wife Sherry of Jacksonville, TX and Jessie Mickler of Lake Stamford; 6 grandchildren, Shelley Louthan and husband Kip of Henderson, Nevada, Brendon Mickler of Hereford, TX, Eric Mickler and wife Jennifer of China Springs, TX, Josh Mickler of Killeen, TX, Jason Beck and wife Christie of Keller, TX, and Jeremy Beck and wife Sury of Glendale, Arizona, 4 great grandchildren, Bristol Beck, Laken Beck, Harley Pearl Mickler, and Brandon Mickler.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605.
