Steve Garcia, 86, of Stamford, passed away on Monday, Jan 3, 2011 in an Abilene nursing care facility. Rosary services will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Stamford. Funeral Mass will be said at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2011 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Father George Roney officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford. Steve was born September 2, 1924 in Coleman, Texas to Agapito and Juanita Garcia. Being raised in both Texas and Mexico. Steve was a self educated man always kidding about going to ½ of the 1st and 2nd grades. Steve married Maria Castro on February 17, 1952 in Acuna, Mexico. He farmed for 6 years in Loraine, Texas and then went to work for the J. H. Strain Co. doing highway construction. This new job carried him and his family around the state until settling in Stamford in 1968. He retired from the J.H. Strain Co. after 38 years of service in 1999. Steve was a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Stamford.
He is survived by his wife Maria of Stamford, 5 sons, Jesse Garcia and wife Karen of Stephenville, Pete Garcia and wife Betty of Abilene, Steve Garcia and wife Sylvia of Stamford, Raymond Garcia and wife Elizabeth and Ralph Garcia and wife Rosalinda all of Abilene, 5 daughters, Dora Fuentes and husband Ray of Riverview, Florida, Norma Johnson and husband Scott of Haskell, Dolores Garcia and husband Joe, Sally Moreno and husband Demectrio, and Concha Garcia, all of Stamford, 2 sisters, Julia Barrera of Snyder and Elvira Ramos of Kerrville, 1 brother, Raul Garcia of Snyder, 37 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Rudy Garcia, 3 sisters, Paubla Garcia, Balbina Teran and Anne Silva, 3 brothers, Robert Garcia, Frank Garcia and Jose Garcia.
