Lola Estelle Long

Lola Estelle Long, 101, of Stamford, passed away on Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 in a local care center. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 29, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Stamford with Rev. Jacob West and Dr. Bruce Lampert officiating. Burial followed in the Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford. The family received friends at the parlor of the First Baptist Church on Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
Lola was born July 4, 1909 in Parker County Texas to John Walter and Shelley Olivia Helms Buntin, one of eleven children. Lola and her family moved to the Tuxedo Community in Jones county when she was just a child and was educated in the Tuxedo schools. She married George Carroll Long on January 16, 1926 in Stamford. George and Lola lived and farmed in the Tuxedo community until their retirement in 1962 when they moved to Stamford. Lola was an excellent seamstress, and a quilter. She had her own garden and loved raising her own vegetables and was an accomplished cook. Her family remembers the feasts that she would spread before them. Lola was also an artist which included canvas and china painting. She was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church in Stamford. She was a member and past secretary of the Ruth Sunday school class, and a past president of the Stamford Garden Club.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Gopichand Kapu, the Community Care Center of Stamford, and the Hendrick Hospice for their excellent care.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, 1 infant sister, Sharon Buntin and 7 brothers, Edward Buntin, Louie Buntin, Clifford Buntin, Arvol "Jake" Buntin, Raymond Buntin, Roy Buntin, and an infant brother, Jessie Buntin.
She is survived by 2 sisters, Lucille Holmes of Anson and Leona Russell of Abilene, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends including her caregivers, her nephew, Walt and wife Addie Creason of Abilene.
The family asks that all donations be made to the First Baptist Church in Stamford, P. O. Box 24, Stamford, Texas 79553.
